For friends that enjoy the finer things in life, a wine gift basket is a tasteful choice that they will be sure to appreciate. There are also gift baskets available with champagne, beer, hard cider, and even specialty soft drinks for those that don't drink wine.
Wine gift baskets center around all varieties of wine and champagne. If the recipient has a preference for a certain type of wine, for instance Chablis or Merlot, you can probably find a basket featuring it. If you aren't familiar with wine, most local wine and liquor stores can answer your questions. Some even offer classes on wine appreciation and wine tasting. If you are shopping online, contact the seller of the wine gift basket you are interested in purchasing. If they are unable to answer your question, they can probably direct you to a good resource that can.
Small and local wineries may offer wine gift baskets. If you live near a wine producing area such as California's Napa Valley or New York's Finger Lakes region, you may be able to purchase a basket in their gift shop. Don't worry, if you don't live somewhere convenient to a winery, though. Online retailers have a great selection and can ship your purchases to many locations. Because champagne and wine are alcoholic beverages, there may be more shipping restrictions than with other gift basket choices.
Champagne and wine gift baskets start at under $50 and can range to $300 or more. At the less expensive end of the spectrum, generally they include a bottle of wine or champagne, chocolate or other food item, and possibly a stuffed toy, corkscrew or other small item. More extravagant baskets may contain a variety of gourmet goodies in addition to the wine.
A wine gift basket is a simple and elegant gift that complements every occasion. The recipient is sure to appreciate both your taste and the thought that went into selecting such a personal gift.

Drop Stop Wine Pourer Pack Of 2
Pack of 2 in cardboard sleeve. Made in Denmark. Ingenious Mylar disc rolls up in neck of bottle for fail-proof pouring.
Customer Review: Simple, ingenius, and inexpensive - can't drink without 'em!
As an amateur oenophile of some eighteen years' experience now, I swear by these mylar drip stoppers. I don't remember where I got my first one, but ever since I discovered them, I won't pour wine without one. They are simple to use, extremely handy, and they work like a charm. Although they are mainly targeted for red wines, I use them for whites and bubblies, too. (No need to waste even a drop of the expensive stuff!) All you do is roll one up and stick it in the bottle. When you're finished, just pull it out, rinse, and it is ready to re-use. When inserted in a bottle of wine, they effectively extend the spout portion of the bottle and completely cut off the liquid flow when the bottle is raised, eliminating those annoying drips and runs. If you haven't used one, you might not think that such a big deal, but believe me, when the threat of droppage on your wife's new table cloth is completely eradicated, you'll wonder how you got along without them. Also, if you collect wine labels, this will keep the wine from running down the bottle and ruining the label (until you mess it up trying to get it off, unless you're using Wine Label Savers- Clear.) Because they are so light and unobtrusive, they have a bad habit of going south on you until you get the hang of keeping track of them. But at this low price, you can afford to go ahead and spring for two or three of the double packs, because even if you don't lose them, they do wear out (eventually) and you will no doubt have an opportunity to pour more than one wine at the same time, some time. (Besides, if they stop just one drop from getting on your new carpet or that white cotton shirt you're wearing, you've already saved the cost of a half dozen of these babies.) If you are regularly partaking of wine at home, even on a modest scale, these will be a welcome addition to your wine tasting tool box. These also make great gifts for anyone you know with a penchant for wine, as these are not all that widely known about...yet.

When you Don’t Get It, You Understand

I had a friend ask me what the most confounding, difficult thing there is about understanding the world of wine. What a loaded question. He is not a big wine drinker, and certainly not a Francophile or an Italianate, so his question was really centered on U.S. wine, and, more specifically, California wine, our vinous forefather, and his personal wine baseline. What he was asking was the classic business question, “what makes it hard.” There is something about everything that mak
